3 Questions That A Great Leader Will Always Ask
To be a good leader is to know what your team needs and working to make sure that those needs are met quickly and efficiently. Whether you are a team of one or a team of 10, leadership is pivotal to the success of any business.
What do I want?
You don’t want to lead any team or your business into the unknown. Knowing what you want in a business, or a team is the first step to growing. So, establish a non-negotiable list. Don’t be apologetic for what your expectations or wants are. Be clear, firm, and direct. If you were to ask your team what your expectations were of them would it match what you have in mind?

Your core values can be a great start to expectations. If you know what your values are then the team culture needs to align with those. Not only do you need to set these expectations for your team but also for yourself. To be a leader is to set the example, so you are no exception to the rules. You must live what you want.
How will you do it?
Create a process for everything. Recruiting, selection, onboarding, training, and day-to-day operations. Having a system from the beginning (before you even hire an employee) will help ensure that those who are on your team match your expectations.
Scheduling and following through with daily or weekly team meetings, providing ongoing training and learning experiences, and making sure that your team understands their expectations is key.
Make sure that everyone is held to the same standards when it comes to the process, even you. Doing the same things every time will make sure that your clients have the best experience, and your team is not stressed because they don’t know what is going on.
How will we keep it?
Show your team that you care. Through loyalty and respect, your employees will maintain your goals and want to do their best for you. Offer your help to your team and support them. Through monetary compensation, extra perks, and showing them you care on a personal level you can encourage loyalty.
The more you lead, the more people are watching you even when you don’t realize it. Walk the walk, don’t just talk the talk. Your attitude affects those around you and who you lead.
Permission to Adjust
If it isn’t working, you have permission to adjust what you want. Leadership is a cycle of these three questions. Always evaluate what is working and what could be better. You can even ask your team or your clients what the gaps are from their perspective.
“What could we have done better to make the process more enjoyable?” or “Since you see the backend of the process on a day-to-day basis, is there anything you think we can do to make the process simpler for a client?” – Just remember, no matter what, you are in the business of taking care of others (your clients and your team).
